Strategy & Definition

The decisions that shape Career Community: what we build vs integrate, how we keep it safe, and how we avoid the ghost-town failure mode that kills most professional communities.

Built in-house vs integrated

We build what must live inside the OppZen career graph and integrate proven tools (Slack, Discord, Zoom, LinkedIn) for everything else — avoiding a rebuild of chat and video while keeping community data tied to your career record.

SurfaceApproachWhy
Feed, profiles, mentor & expert bookingBuildCore to the OppZen graph — built in-house so it ties directly to your Vault, goals, and CRM.
Real-time chat & topic roomsIntegrateEmbed Slack / Discord workspaces rather than rebuild chat. We sync membership, not messages.
Live events & webinarsIntegrateZoom / Luma for hosting; OppZen handles discovery, RSVP, and post-event follow-up.
Recognition, badges, leaderboardsBuildGamification is tied to verified OppZen activity (interviews logged, referrals confirmed).
Identity & professional graphIntegrateLinkedIn import for connections; OppZen never reposts to external networks without consent.

Moderation strategy

Verified-first membership

Every member is identity-verified (email + phone, optional LinkedIn). No anonymous accounts — accountability reduces toxicity before it starts.

Tiered human + AI moderation

An AI triage layer flags spam, harassment, and PII leaks in real time; trained community moderators and volunteer leads review escalations within SLA.

Clear, enforced code of conduct

Published rules, transparent strike system, and an appeals process. Recruiters and experts are held to a higher bar (no cold-selling, no pay-to-play).

Avoiding the ghost town

The default outcome for professional communities is silence. We design against it with seeded supply, relentless relevance, and recurring rituals.

Seed before scale

Launch each cohort with a critical mass of vetted mentors and experts so newcomers always find a reply.

Personalized, not firehose

Every member sees a feed filtered by their Vault, goals, role, and location — relevance over volume.

Always-on rituals

Weekly digest, weekly challenges, and scheduled AMAs create a predictable reason to return.

Concierge prompts

The AI Concierge nudges quiet members with a question to answer or a peer to help — turning lurkers into contributors.

Reward contribution

Recognition, badges, and referral rewards make helping others visibly worthwhile.

What we explicitly avoid

  • Anonymous, unverified accounts
  • Engagement-bait feeds optimized for outrage
  • Pay-to-play recruiter spam
  • A single global firehose with no relevance
  • Launching empty and hoping people show up
  • Selling member data to advertisers
